Forget Ramos, he is the bitter past, says prominent DLSU political analyst
De La Salle University's Professor of Political Science Antonio Contreras said that Former President Fidel Ramos is confident in his thinking that he can control now President Rodrigo Duterte.
Just recently, Ramos said that Duterte was "full of shit" for thinking that diatribes against the Philippines' allies and the 2015 Paris Agreement on Climate Change Agreement was his God-given destiny, and that his rejection of the climate agreement was akin to him and the entire country "shooting [themselves] in the mouth".
Ramos in his column for a Manila broadsheet said that to mitigate the effects of climate change, the Philippines should coordinante with international bodies for collective action which is embodied in the Paris climate agreement.
He also has been advising the president.
"Ramos is in a tantrum. He thought he can order around the President just because of his support." Contreras wrote on his Facebook page.
He claimed that Ramos is pro-American, while Duterte is aiming for a Philippines that has an independent foreign policy.
He said that Ramos supports Leni Robredo while Duterte is for Bongbong Marcos.
Contreras said Ramos embodies a past that is wanting to hold us and take us back.
While he added that Duterte is the present steering us to exciting and unexplored possibilities of a future.
"Forget Ramos," he wrote.
