WATCH: SPEAKER ALVAREZ: SOMEONE WANTS JAYBEE SEBASTIAN SILENCED
In an ambush interview with Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez on Wednesday, September 28, he said that the riot at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) could be associated to the House justice committee investigation into the illegal drug trade inside the NBP. Alvarez said that there were people who wanted to stop the testimony of Jaybee Sebastian at the House justice committe investigation.
“That’s sad, apparently there are forces na ayaw mag-testify si Jaybee Sebastian. Tingnan natin ung motibo kung sino yung ayaw na malaman siguro ang katotohanan,” Alvarez said.
Previous bilibid inmates who testify against De Lima pointed to Sebastian who is collecting pay-offs from the illegal drug trade inside the NBP. Sebastian is the next witness to testify against De Lima and Alvarez found it suspicious that a riot happened targeting Sebastian.
“Bakit naman of all those years ngayon lang sila magpapatayan? Targeted pa yung intended resource person na na-announce ng (House) committee on justice,” Alvarez said.
"Hindi ko talaga alam, but there is always that possibility,” he added.
The riot happened at around 7:30 a.m., when fellow inmate, convicted police officer Clarence Dongail caught Peter Co, Tony Co, and Vicente Sy having a “pot session” inside their cell. Tony Co went to the cell of Sebastian and Dongail and attacked Dongail with a knife, which started the riot. Tony Co was killed and Peter Co is in critical condition.
