WATCH: De Lima gives unsolicited advice to Duterte

Senator Leila de Lima has offered an unsolicited advice to his archenemy President Rodrigo Duterte after the latter failed to meet with one of world’s most powerful leader United States President Barack Obama.

“This is a friendly advise, unsolicited advice, kailangan po kasi tandaan ng ating Mahal na Pangulo na pangulo po siya. Therefore ano man po ang lumalabas sa bibig niya ay kailangan pinag-iisipan nang husto at hindi padalos-dalos,” de Lima said.

De Lima was referring to the vulgar tirades of Duterte against Obama that prompted the latter to call off his scheduled meeting with the newly installed President of the Philippines.

De Lima said whatever comes out from Duterte’s mouth would automatically become a policy statement therefore he must learn how to be prudent. “The foreign policy of a country is the prerogative and part of the job ng isang pangulo, so kung ano man ang foreign policy ng kanyang gobyerno, kailangan maingat na sinasabi iyan at ano man ang sinasabi ng pangulo hingil sa isa pang head of state, mayaman man na state o hindi ay reflective of the foreign policy of the country, and therefore hindi po pwede yung ganyang style na nambubully,” she said.

De Lima said the offensive languages of Duterte “do not only demean himself but it demeans his office and even the country in the eyes of the world.”

She said that she might again earn the ire of the President by giving him unsolicited advice but it would not deter her from reminding Duterte to be cautious on what he says.
