Senator Sherwin Gatchalian urged President Duterte to certify the “Sim Card Registration Bill” as urgent to easily track the people behind bomb threats and text scam.
The Senate Bill No. 203, also known as the “Sim Card Registration Act” implements mandatory registration of prepaid sim cards to discourage pranksters for spreading false information and threats.
Sen. Gatchalian said to his Facebook post. Under the bill, all direct sellers of Prepaid SIM cards would required buyers to present a valid photo ID before allowing them to purchase a SIM.
Current owners of prepaid SIM cards would be mandated to register their mobile numbers within 180 days from the effectivity of the law or else it would be automatically scheduled for activation.
Netizens lauds Sen. Gatchalian for pushing it to the Senate and they believe that it would not violate their privacy rights.
