GOOD NEWS! Abu Sayyaf releases Filipina hostage
DAVAO CITY (June 24, 2016) — Abu Sayyaf hostage Marites Flor was turned over today to Presidential Assistant on the Peace Process Jesus Dureza in Jolo, Sulu. She was then brought to President-elect Rodrigo Duterte in Davao City.
Flor, who was abducted by the Abu Sayyaf on September 21, 2016 along with Canadians Robert Hall and John Risdel and Norwegian Kjartan Sekkingstad, was abandoned in front of the house of Sulu Provincial Governor Abdusakur Tan before dawn on Friday.
Reports said her release was negotiated with the help of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF).
Hall and Risdel were beheaded by the extremist group after failing to pay the demanded multi-million dollar ransom.
Hall’s head was hurled in front of the Jolo Municipal Hall on April 25 while Risdel’s was found in Jolo Cathedral on June 13.
Sekkingstad still remains in captivity but Duterte said his release had also been negotiated with the Abu Sayyaf. He is expected to be released any time, Duterte added.
