Grade school teacher, 14th on town's drug suspects record, shot dead
ILOCOS NORTE - A fifth grade teacher was shot dead by motorcycle-riding gunmen in Solsona, Ilocos Norte on Tuesday afternoon. Police said the victim, Rhodell Don Legaspi, 42 years old, was ranked 14th on the town's list of drug personalities. Legaspi was gunned down while he was driving his tricycle on his way home in Barangay Juan in Solsona.
"May dalawang lalake na nakamotorsiklo, 'yun isa naka helmet at naka face mask naman yun gunman, at hinintuan yun victim sabay pinagbabaril. Sa nagyon, hindi pa natin sila ma-identify," Insp. Juliferr Narag, chief of PNP-Solsona, Ilocos Norte said. Authorities have yet to identify the motive behind the incident, but they are eyeing Legaspi's alleged involvement in illegal drugs. "Rank No. 14 natin siya sa municipality natin at hindi lang siya nag susurrender, hindi pa natin maestablish kung anu ang motive pero isa ito sa pinag-aaralan natin," Narag said.
Nine spent bullets of caliber .45 were recovered from the crime scene. Legaspi's father, Nicanor, said he has no idea about his son's alleged involvement in illegal drugs. "Wala akong alam dyan sa sinasabing illegal drugs kasi wala kaming napapansin, wala rin siyang kaaway," Nicanor said. The flag in Manalpac Elementary School, where Legaspi taught, was flown at half-staff on Wednesday.
