Duterte and Leni’s selfie-worthy pic on National Heroes’ Day
It almost looked like Vice President Leni Robredo pulled President Rodrigo Duterte aside for a selfie during a lull in Monday morning’s (August 29) National Heroes’ Day celebration at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (LNMB) in Taguig City. Almost.

At any rate, this photo taken by Malacañang’s media relations division shows another aspect of the apparent friendliness between country’s top two politikos. Eagle-eyed observers will also note that Robredo’s double Chelsea-collared dress perfectly matched the tone of Duterte’s Barong Tagalog. A coincidence, right?

Things weren’t always this way for the two; there was apparent coldness from Duterte toward the former Camarines Sur lawmaker right after their respective election victories last May.

That all changed after an icebreaker of a meeting on July 1 in Camp Aguinaldo and Robredo’s subsequent courtesy call in Malacañang. Robredo is now arguably the 71-year-old Chief Executive’s favorite lady politiko, and has been described by the latter as “beautiful” numerous times in public, even in front of fellow officials.
Robredo, 52, a widow, is a member of the Liberal Party (LP) while “Digong” belongs to PDP-Laban.
