Drug lord accepts terror groups in kill plot vs Duterte: PNP chief'
MANILA - A top drug trafficker has teamed up with armed groups that pledged allegiance to the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), in order to kill President Duterte and Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa. Dela Rosa made the claim Wednesday, saying the drug lord is an incumbent mayor from Mindanao who wants to stop government's crackdown on narcotics. "Mayroong intelligence report na nakakarating sa atin na allegedly, mayroong isang mayor na identified na drug lord na nag-o-offer ng pera sa mga personalities identified with armed groups dito sa Mindanao na nag-pledge allegiance sa ISIS para titirahan kami ni President Duterte," he told ABS-CBN's "Umagang Kay Ganda"
(We received an intelligence report that a mayor, who was tagged as a drug lord, is offering bounties to personalities identified with armed groups in Mindanao that pledged allegiance to ISIS, to assassinate me and President Duterte.) "Iyung mga IED (improvised explosive device) ang gagamitin daw." (They will reportedly use IEDs.) Dela Rosa, however, declined to name the alleged drug lord. The PNP has sought the Army's help to "neutralize" the drug-tainted mayor, he said.
But he added that offensives against the suspect cannot be rushed because his location may pose an operational complication. "Ayaw po nating magkaroon ng another Mamasapano SAF 44, kaya ingat tayo sa ginagawa natin," he said. (We don't want another Mamasapano SAF 44 encounter so we are taking caution. ) Despite the alleged assassination threat, Dela Rosa said he will not tighten his personal security or stop going to public places where he is often swamped by adoring crowds.
A star is born: 'Bato' causes human traffic with selfie requests "Hindi ako takot mamatay anytime. Bahala na si Lord sa akin," he said. (I'm not afraid to die anytime. The Lord will take care of me.)
