De Lima says hero’s burial for Marcos will start to another dictator
Sen. Leila de Lima warned that allowing the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos to lie beside the remains of heroes could be a sign that another “monster” could be waiting in the wings to capture the country again.
“Marcos’ burial among heroes means tyranny can rule this country again. Let us not give anybody the chance to be a tyrant of this country once again. Never again to tyranny. Never again to dictatorship. Never again!” said de Lima in a report by the Inquirer.
De Lima was among the politikos who joined hundreds of protesters who gathered at the Rizal Park at Luneta to express their opposition to President Rodrigo Duterte’s plan to give Marcos a hero’s burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
De Lima called Marcos a “monster” and that his hero’s burial would be a reboot of his history of plunder, human rights abuses, and lavishness amid economic deprivation of the masses.
“Burying Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani would be killing the remaining strength of the Filipino to stand against the return of dictatorship,” De Lima said.
Other politikos who attended the event were Senators Risa Hontiveros and Bam Aquino, Representatives Edcel Lagman and Teddy Baguilat, Jr., former Sen. Wigberto Tanada, former Akbayan Rep. Walden Bello and former Commission on Human Rights commissioner Etta Rosales.
