De Lima on Duterte’s comment: It’s so foul
“It’s so foul.”
This was the response of Senator Leila de Lima on the unexpected scathing remarks of President Rodrigo Duterte as he spoke at the Philippine National Police’s 115th service anniversary in Camp Crame Wednesday afternoon.
“May nagsabi na sa akin ngayon lang. So it’s very surprising. Alam mo ang first reaction ko ngayon, ayaw ko ng patulan ‘yan. I don’t want to dignify that, it’s so foul. It’s character assassination,” de Lima said when asked by reporters to comment on Duterte’s tirades. “Pareho kaming professional ng Pangulo, pareho rin po kaming public servants, sana hindi siya nagre-resort sa ganyan na mga foul means. To me that’s s very foul,” she added.
Duterte issued his remarks a week before de Lima is scheduled to launch a congressional inquiry into the extrajudicial killings in the administration’s campaign against illegal drugs. De Lima questioned the timing of Duterte’s harsh pronouncements.
“Very bad timing. I don’t know kung ano po agenda nila na they’re resorting to character assassination. That is a very clear case of character assassination and I did not expect the President to do that, sa totoo lang,” she said.
De Lima said the President should have rechecked his facts first before lambasting her in public. “Saan man nanggaling ‘yung information na ‘yan, sana dino-double check. Sana inaalam ang source kanino man nanggaling yan,” she said.
She meanwhile assured that she would not be intimated by Duterte’s actions and she would push through with the hearings on August 22 and 23.
