De Lima maintains not guilty in drug allegations but can’t say the same for ex-driver
Justice Secretary Leila de Lima remains evasive about the supposed involvement of her former driver and bodyguard in the illegal drug trade even as she maintained her innocence regarding the anomaly.
“I would not be answering those questions at this point,” De Lima told CNN Philippines Monday (August 22) when asked about the supposed ties of Ronnie Dayan to illegal drugs.
“What I can say at this point by way of reiteration is that I’m not in anyway connected, linked to or involved in drugs. That’s all I need to assert. I stand by that assertion. I stand by my innocence up to last my breath,” she said.
President Rodrigo Duterte earlier tagged Dayan as De Lima’s alleged bagman in drug-related dealings within the New Bilibid Prison. He also claimed that the two are lovers.
Duterte said the senator’s relationship with her former driver was to blame for the ongoing corruption at the NBP.
