Completely false: De Lima on collecting money from drug lords
Among the many issues being hurled against Senator Leila de Lima, she said accusation that she was collecting money from high-profile inmates in the New Bilibid Prison was the one that was “completely false.”
In an interview with reporters on Friday, De Lima said has been accused of receiving money from drug lords many times before and she persistently denied it.
“Madalas ko na ho dinedeny ‘yan sa mga various interviews, because remember these are the insinuations na protektor ako, coddler ako ng drug lords or drug convicts dahil nakikinabang ako. I’m on their payroll, sinasabi nila or nagcontribute sila sa campaign funds ko. But, ilang beses ko na ‘yan dine-deny. So, I’m denying it again. (That’s) an absolute lie; that’s completely false!,” she said. De Lima said that she cannot afford to betray the trust given to her by the people.
“I would never do that because I’ve never betrayed my oath as a public servant and I don’t intend to betray my oath as a public servant, lalo na may mandato ako sa taumbayan,” she added. Known whistleblower Sandra Cam on Friday revealed that De Lima’s driver and alleged lover, Ronnie Palisoc Dayan, had frequently visited the national penitentiary to collect money from drug lords inside the Bilibid.
Cam cited an anonymous source saying that Dayan collected about P5 million a week for De Lima. Cam’s exposé came two days after Duterte lambasted De Lima for being an “immoral woman” by having an illicit affair with Dayan, who is a married man.
The President also said that Dayan was the “bagman” of De Lima. “Okay, may kaunting totoo dyan, pero karamihan dyan, exaggerations, distortions and lies,” said De Lima.
“You know, bakit completely silent ako. It’s very difficult for me kasi, I don’t want to be publicly engaging na paisa-isa ko i-explain yan, etcetera. But this what I can tell you. We’ve seen some snippets of facts, snippets of truths, but the bulk of it are distortions, exaggerations, and lies,” she added.
