Bato Dela Rosa to PNP members involved in drugs: Confess what you know

Divulge what you know.

This was the order issued Monday by Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa to the police officers allegedly involved in the illegal drugs trade who surrendered to him. Fifteen police commissioned officers, 16 police non-commissioned officers, and one retiree went to the PNP headquarters in Camp Crame after their names were mentioned by President Rodrigo Duterte over the weekend. "Isiwalat ninyo ang dapat ninyong sabihin, tsansa ninyo na ito. Tumulong kayo sa PNP. Sabihin ninyo ang lahat ng dapat sabihin," Dela Rosa told the police officers.

Aside from egging the police officers to divulge what they know, Dela Rosa also threatened to kill the police officers if they will return to their alleged illegal activities. "Papatayin ko kayo pag na-involve ang pangalan ninyo pagkatapos nito," he said. The PNP chief hurled invectives at the PNP members several times when he met them before they underwent investigation by the PNP Internal Affairs Service. The police officers will also undergo drug test. “Nakakahiya tayo. Gusto kong mag-evaporate sa mundo, gusto ko nang mamatay, gusto ko nang matunaw dahil sa nangyayari sa atin, nakakahiya. Ako ang chief PNP, I’m leading the PNP with people who are involved in sindikato. P…ina, jusko maawa ka, Panginoon. “This is the worst thing that could happen to any of us. Siguro kung kayo talaga ay involved, hindi nyo mahal ang PNP, mahal nyo lang ang sarili lang ninyo, kung paano magpapayaman, p…ina, kung paano tumanggap ng pera ng droga, paano magrecycle ng droga, hindi nyo iniisip yung kinabusaksan ng Pilipinas,” he added. The PNP Directorate for Personnel and Records Management has 98 police officers on the list of those allegedly involved in illegal drugs but only 32 surrendered Monday.

Restricted to PNP premises

Chief Supt. Leo Angelo Eleuterio, acting IAS Inspector General, said the police officers who surrendered will not be allowed to leave the PNP premises and will stay at the IAS office until the investigation is finished. He said they will recommend that those who surrendered be put on a floating status and their firearms be confiscated. Asked if anyone of those who surrendered have admitted involvement in illegal drugs, Eleuterio said he has yet to talk with them on the matter. “I only had [a] short interaction with them, wala pa kaming napag-uusapan na ganun,” he said. He said he cannot say yet when the investigation will be completed. Eleuterio added that others on the list who will wish to surrender can go to the IAS regional offices. "We will recommend that they be in restricted units," he said.

Meanwhile, at least 27 politicians who are also allegedly involved in illegal drugs surrendered to Dela Rosa. Among those who surrendered was Frals Sabalones, vice mayor of San Fernando, Cebu, and brother of Franz Sabalunes, alleged number 2 drug lord in Central Visayas, who also surfaced.

He believed that his name was mistakenly put on the list because of the similarity with the name of his brother. "Mistaken lang dahil Frals ako at Frans siya," he said. "Nabasa ni President Duterte yung pangalan ko, mistakenly. Masakit sa damdamin ko yung nangyari sa kanya (kapatid) dahil hindi ko talaga alam kung ano yung ano niya," he added.
