Aquino to Duterte: De Lima should produce evidence
Let the law determine who should be punished.
Former president Benigno Aquino III had this to say about the rather scandalous tit-for-tat between President Rodrigo Duterte and Senator Leila de Lima even as he hoped that things won’t get out of hand.
“Huwag sana tayo mawala dun sa pakay. Sana hindi bangayan,” Aquino said in a chance interview at Manila Memorial Park in Parañaque City where the 33rd death anniversary of his father, Senator Ninoy Aquino, was commemorated.
Aquino also joined the chorus of those asking for the verbal exchange between Duterte and De Lima to be more “evidence-based”.
“Sana maglabasan tayo ng pruweba at ebidensya at nandyan ang mga sistema sa ating batas para panagutin ang may mga sala at malaman ang katotohanan,” said the former chief executive.
Aquino and De Lima both belong to the Liberal Party (LP), with the former sitting as its chairman. Last week, Duterte linked the lady senator to the proliferation of illegal drugs within the New Bilibid Prison (NBP), particularly during her term as Justice secretary.
He also accused De Lima of being her driver’s mistress. She has denied the allegations, calling them “foul”.
